Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering Department at Arkansas Tech University. We are glad that you have chosen to visit with us through our World Wide Web site. There are a number of exciting developments at Tech and in the Mechanical Engineering Department as we enter the 21st century. As we move together toward this future, we keep in mind our past and the commitment to a strong basic engineering education for our students in the friendly atmosphere of a small University.
The philosophy of the Mechanical Engineering Department reflects that of the University as a whole, that Tech is a teaching institution and our primary mission is teaching. This is reflected in the department's mission statement and the presence of the faculty in the classrooms. The faculty in the department are committed to assuring a first-class education to our students by providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to be successful in a rapidly changing world while instilling in them the importance of life-long learning.
The physical facilities also reflect our commitment to a quality program. The Mechanical Engineering Department is housed in the Center for Energy Studies building and has up-to-date lab equipment including a dedicated computer lab and a student study area. Our classes are small with 10-15 students in most sections which allows for more interaction between the professors and students.
While our emphasis is on teaching, research is not forgotten and many of our faculty are actively pursuing research interests with many possibilities for students to become involved.
We are glad that you have visited our site on the World Wide Web. If you would like to learn more about the Mechanical Engineering Department at Arkansas Tech University, give us a call at (479) 964-0877 or e-mail us at: jkrohn@atu.edu.
